El acto se cumplió este sábado en Barranquilla con la presencia del presidente del COC, Baltazar Medina.
El barranquillero Helmuth Bellingrodt enseña las dos medallas de plata que ganó para Colombia en los Olímpicos.
“Estoy muy emocionado y agradezco a todos los periodistas del Atlántico, al Comité Olímpico Colombiano y los entes deportivos del Barranquilla el Atlántico, por este sentido y caloroso homenaje”, fueron algunas de las palabras que expresó el doble medallista de plata olímpico, Helmut Bellingrodt, durante el homenaje que se le rindió este sábado en la ciudad de Barranquilla.
En el acto, que se cumplió en el Hotel Barranquilla Plaza, estuvo presente el presidente del Comité Olímpico Colombiano, Baltazar Medina; el vicepresidente del mismo organismo, Ciro Solano; el presidente de Acord Atlántico, Estewil Quesada; Edgar Perea Arias, Joao Herrera Hiranzo, y los directores de los entes deportivos de Barranquilla y el Atlántico.
El mismo se hizo como homenaje a los 40 de la primera presea olímpica conseguida por Colombia en unas olimpiadas. Y fue en Múnich donde el barranquillero Bellingrodt ganó medalla de plata en la modalidad de blanco móvil o tiro al jabalí, el primero de septiembre de 1972.
Gesta que repetiría en los Juegos Olímpicos de Los Angeles-84, y se convertía en el primer colombiano con dos medallas en este tipo de competencia, logro igualado recientemente en Londres por la luchadora Jackeline Rentería, pero ella en bronce.
Baltazar Medina, aprovechó el momento para exhortar a la dirigencia deportiva del Atlántico y de la Costa Atlántica en general, a que pongan más atención al deporte y planifiquen a futuro, “para que este región vuelva a ser lo que fue y vuelva ser la pionera del deporte colombiano. Lo cual quedó reflejado en las cinco primera medallas olímpicas que obtuvo Colombia en las olimpiadas”.
Medina planteó que en Barranquilla, y como homenaje al deportista, “se construya el Centro de Alto Rendimiento en Tiro Deportivo, para que no solamente sirva la Atlántico sino a toda la Región”.
También manifestó, que junto a Helmut Bellingrodt y otras personas del Gobierno Nacional, se está haciendo gestión ante el gobierno cubano para que una deuda de 50 millones de dólares canadienses que ese país tiene con Colombia, sea pagada con servicios prestados de entrenadores para que vengan a enseñarles a los nuestros.
“Hemos hablado eso con Helmut y creemos que Barranquilla y el Atlántico serán los grandes beneficiados, por la cercanía que existe con Cuba. Se está buscando eso y si se da la Región Caribe se verá beneficiada en un gran porcentaje”, terminó diciendo el presidente del COC.
Baltazar Medina, presidente del Comité Olímpico Colombiano, COC, entregó la placa de reconocimiento a Helmut Bellingrodt. Observan el notario Joao Herrera, el narrador Édgar Perea y Estewil Quesada, presidente de Acord-Atlántico.
El homenajeado dejó un mensaje a los deportistas de ahora y del futuro en sentido de que “se debe querer el deporte que se practica para darlo todo por el país y la patria. Yo espero y estoy seguro que en Brasil vamos a conseguir mucho más medallas que las que se obtuvieron en Londres, porque se está trabajando por parte de los entes deportivos y del Gobierno Nacional”.
